UFC Fight Night: Song vs. Gutiérrez (also known asUFC Fight Night 233,UFC on ESPN+ 91 andUFC Vegas 83) was a mixed martial arts event produced by theUltimate Fighting Championship that took place on December 9, 2023, at theUFC Apex facility inEnterprise, Nevada, part of theLas Vegas Metropolitan Area, United States.[2]
The event was to mark the promotion's second visit to Shanghai and first sinceUFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Gastelum in November 2017. It was to be the first time since theCOVID-19 pandemic that the UFC has returned to Mainland China.[3] However in mid-November 2023, the event was moved to theUFC Apex due to undisclosed reasons.[2]
A bantamweight bout betweenSong Yadong andChris Gutiérrez headlined the event.[4]
The four finals of theRoad to UFC Season 2 were expected to take place at this event.[5] However, they were pulled from this event due to the change of location.[6]
A light heavyweight bout betweenZhang Mingyang and Brendson Ribeiro was scheduled for the event.[7] However, the bout was postponed due to the change of location and fighters facing visa issues and rescheduled forUFC 298.[6][8]
Steve Garcia and Melquizael Costa were expected to meet in a featherweight bout a week earlier atUFC on ESPN: Dariush vs. Tsarukyan, but the pairing was scrapped when Garcia withdrew the day before due to illness.[9] They were rescheduled for this event.[10]
A flyweight bout betweenSu Mudaerji and Allan Nascimento was expected to take place at the event.[11] However, Nascimento withdrew from the fight due to injury and was replaced by formerUFC Flyweight Championship challenger (alsoThe Ultimate Fighter: Tournament of Champions flyweight winner)Tim Elliott in a bantamweight bout.[12]
A catchweight bout of 140 pounds between Daniel Marcos and Carlos Vera was scheduled for the event.[13] However, the bout was cancelled due to visa issues on Marcos' side.[14]
At the weigh-ins, Luana Santos weighed in at 139 pounds, three pounds over the bantamweight non-title fight limit. Her bout proceeded at catchweight with Santos being fined 20% of her purse which went to her opponentStephanie Egger.[15]
