The event was the seventh time that the organization has held an event inLouisiana and first sinceUFC 37 in 2002.
The event was the lastUFC Fight Night aired onSpike, and in general, the lastUFC Fight Night labeled event until the debut ofFox Sports 1 in 2013. After that, all UFC main cards on cable/satellite Fox channels would be labeledUFC Fight Night. And, in addition to cable/satellite Fox UFC events, mostUFC Fight Pass main events would also be labeledUFC Fight Night.
Mackens Semerzier was expected to face Mike Lullo at the event,[3] but pulled out of the event on August 31[4] and was replaced byRobbie Peralta[5]
DaMarques Johnson was expected to faceClay Harvison at the event,[6] but pulled out of the bout with an injury on August 31 and was replaced bySeth Baczynski.[7]
Daniel Roberts was originally scheduled to faceTJ Waldburger, but pulled out due to an injury and was replaced by Mike Stumpf.[8]
