UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver (also known asUFC Fight Night 59) was amixed martial arts event held on January 18, 2015, at theTD Garden inBoston, Massachusetts.[2]
The event was headlined by a featherweight bout betweenConor McGregor andDennis Siver.[3] It was announced that a victory over Siver will ensure McGregor of a shot at theUFC Featherweight Championship in his next fight.[4]
Jorge Masvidal was expected to faceNorman Parke at the event. However, in early December, Masvidal pulled out of the bout citing an injury and was replaced byGleison Tibau.[5]
Paul Felder was expected to faceJohnny Case at the event.[6] However, Felder elected to fight as a replacement againstDanny Castillo atUFC 182.[7] He was replaced byFrancisco Treviño.[8] On December 23, it was announced that Treviño had to pull out of the bout due to an injury and was replaced by promotional newcomerFrankie Perez.[9]
Costas Philippou was expected to faceUriah Hall at the event. However, Philippou was forced out of the bout due to injury.[10] He was replaced byStrikeforce veteranLouis Taylor.[11] On January 11, it was announced that Taylor pulled out of the fight due to apulled muscle in his back and had his contract terminated as a result.[12] Hall faced promotional newcomerRon Stallings.[13]
Eddie Alvarez was expected to face formerWEC &UFC Lightweight championBenson Henderson at the co-main event. However, Alvarez was forced out of the bout due to illness.[14] He was replaced byDonald Cerrone, whom Henderson fought twice before (atWEC 43 andWEC 48) and won both fights.[14] One fight was for theWEC Lightweight Championship and the other one was for the interim belt. Cerrone had previously fought just 15 days before this event atUFC 182, winning his fight againstMyles Jury.[15]
