UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. The Korean Zombie (also known asUFC Fight Night 165 andUFC on ESPN+ 23) was amixed martial arts event produced by theUltimate Fighting Championship that took place on December 21, 2019 atSajik Arena inBusan, South Korea.[2][3]
The event marked the promotion's first visit to Busan and the second in South Korea, afterUFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Masvidal in November 2015.[2]
A featherweight bout between formerUFC Featherweight Championship challengersBrian Ortega andChan Sung Jung was originally slated as the event headliner.[4] However, Ortega pulled out of the fight in early December, citing a knee injury.[5] He was replaced by formerUFC Lightweight ChampionFrankie Edgar.[6] The two were previously scheduled to meet on November 10, 2018 atUFC Fight Night: The Korean Zombie vs. Rodríguez.[7] However, Edgar was forced to pull out of that bout after tearing his bicep.[8]
A flyweight bout betweenJi Yeon Kim andSabina Mazo was scheduled for the event. However, it was reported on November 1 that Kim was forced to pull out of the fight due to an undisclosed injury.[9]
A flyweight bout betweenVeronica Macedo andAmanda Lemos was scheduled for the event. However, Macedo was removed from the event in favor of a matchup withAriane Lipski on November 16 atUFC Fight Night: Błachowicz vs. Jacaré.[10] Lemos instead foughtMiranda Granger.[11]
