A women's strawweight bout betweenMarina Rodriguez andMackenzie Dern headlined the event.[3]
A middleweight bout betweenPhil Hawes andDeron Winn was expected to take place at the event.[4] The pairing was initially scheduled to meet on July 17 atUFC on ESPN: Makhachev vs. Moisés, but Winn pulled out of that event citing a chest injury.[5] In turn, Winn withdrew the day before the event due to health issues.[6] He was briefly replaced byChris Curtis, but Hawes declined the bout and it was ultimately scrapped.[7]
Michael Trizano andChas Skelly were scheduled to meet in a featherweight bout at the event.[8] However, Skelly was removed from the bout two weeks before the event due to undisclosed reasons.[9] As a result, the bout was canceled.
A middleweight bout betweenJamie Pickett andLaureano Staropoli was originally scheduled for this event.[10] However, the bout was moved toUFC Fight Night: Costa vs. Vettori after one of Pickett's coachestested positive for COVID-19.[11]
Sam Hughes was expected to faceLupita Godinez in a women's strawweight bout at this event.[12] However, Hughes was pulled from the bout after testing positive forCOVID-19 and was replaced by promotional newcomerSilvana Gómez Juárez.[13]
At the weigh-ins,Jared Gooden weighed in at 174 pounds, three pounds over the welterweight non-title fight limit. His bout proceeded at a catchweight and he forfeited 20% of his purse to his opponentRandy Brown.[14]
