UFC 76: Knockout was amixed martial arts (MMA)pay-per-view event held by theUltimate Fighting Championship. The event took place on September 22, 2007, at theHonda Center inAnaheim,California. Although the event was advertised with the subtitleKnockout, the entire card produced noknockouts whatsoever.

Background

[edit]

Themain event was anticipated to beChuck Liddell versusWanderlei Silva, a match between the two former champions of the UFC andPRIDE, respectively; however, the main event featured a fight between formerLight Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell andThe Ultimate Fighter 2 alumKeith Jardine, with both fighters returning from knockout losses atUFC 71.

Also appearing on the card was2005 Pride Middleweight Grand Prix Champion and futureUFC Light Heavyweight ChampionMaurício Rua, who made his Octagon debut againstTUF 1 winnerForrest Griffin.

WelterweightDiego Sanchez returned after his decision loss atUFC 69 toJosh Koscheck when he facedJon Fitch, a training partner of Koscheck and a formerPurdue University wrestler who was in the midst of a thirteen-fight win streak.

A scheduled bout between the light heavyweightsJason Lambert andWilson Gouveia was removed from the card after Gouveia suffered a severely broken nose during training. A replacement for Gouveia was not found.[2]

With the card left with only eight bouts instead of nine, the UFC scheduled a fight betweenRich Clementi andAnthony Johnson to fill out the remainder of the card.[3]

None of the preliminary bouts made it to the PPV due to the length of all the main card bouts.
