UFC 73: Stacked was amixed martial arts (MMA) event held by theUltimate Fighting Championship (UFC). It took place on July 7, 2007, at theARCO Arena inSacramento,California and featured a total of nine bouts: four on thepreliminary card and five on the maincard.[2]
In themain event,Anderson Silva put hisUFC Middleweight Championship belt on the line againstNate Marquardt.
The card's other championship match hadSean Sherk defending hisUFC Lightweight Championship belt againstHermes Franca. Post–fight, the California State Athletic Commission announced that both fighters tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.[3] Sherk was eventually stripped of the title.
Jason Gilliam was the third choice forChris Lytle's opponent. Originally scheduled to compete was Jeff Joslin, who withdrew due to a training injury.[4] His replacement,Drew Fickett, also withdrew later due to injury.[5]
Jorge Gurgel was initially reported to be facing futureWEC Lightweight ChampionJamie Varner at this event, but Varner was later moved to the WEC for a planned match atWEC 27. Gurgel would instead fight Diego Saraiva on this card.[6]
