AUFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between current champion (also formerUFC Middleweight Champion and formerGlory Middleweight andLight Heavyweight Champion)Alex Pereira and former title challengerMagomed Ankalaev headlined the event.[3]
A five-round lightweight bout between former interimUFC Lightweight Champion (also formerWSOF Lightweight Champion)Justin Gaethje andDan Hooker was expected to serve as the co-headliner.[4] However, Hooker had to withdraw from the bout due to a hand injury.[5] He was replaced byRafael Fiziev in what became a three-round bout.[6] They previously met atUFC 286 in March 2023 when Gaethje won by majority decision.[7]
A heavyweight bout betweenJhonata Diniz andVitor Petrino was expected to take place at the event.[8] However, Petrino was forced to withdraw from the fight due tolateral epicondylitis in both elbows, so the bout was removed from the card.[9]
A heavyweight bout between former interimUFC Heavyweight Championship challengerCurtis Blaydes and promotional newcomerRizvan Kuniev was scheduled forUFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Song.[10] However, the bout was moved to this event for unknown reasons.[11] In turn, their bout was cancelled a few hours before the event started as Blaydes suffered from an undisclosed illness.[12]
A bantamweight bout betweenChris Gutiérrez and undefeated prospect Jean Matsumoto was scheduled for this event.[13] However, Matsumoto was withdrawn from this event in order to serve as a replacement fighter againstRob Font atUFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Song two weeks prior.[14] He was replaced byJohn Castañeda in a featherweight bout.[15] In turn, the pairing was scrapped hours before taking place as Castañeda suffered an undisclosed illness.[16]
Bruno Gustavo da Silva andJoshua Van were expected to meet in a flyweight bout on the preliminary card.[17] However on February 17, Silva pulled out due to undisclosed reasons and was replaced byRoad to UFC Season 2 flyweight winner Rei Tsuruya.[18] This was the first ever UFC bout to feature two fighters born in the 2000s.[19]
During the event's broadcast, formerUFC Welterweight ChampionRobbie Lawler was announced as the next "modern wing"UFC Hall of Fame inductee during International Fight Week festivities in Las Vegas this June. In 2023, Lawler was inducted to the "fight wing" of the Hall of Fame for his title defense againstRory MacDonald atUFC 189.[20]
