UFC 195: Lawler vs. Condit was amixed martial arts event held on January 2, 2016, at theMGM Grand Garden Arena inLas Vegas, Nevada.[3][4]
The event was expected to feature aUFC Women's Bantamweight Championship bout between then-undefeated championRonda Rousey andHolly Holm, a former 18-timeboxing world champion in three weight classes.[5] However, the bout was moved toUFC 193 after a thumb injury toUFC Welterweight ChampionRobbie Lawler forced him out of his title bout againstCarlos Condit, a formerWEC Welterweight Champion and former interim UFC Welterweight Champion.[6] The Lawler/Condit pairing remained intact and headlined this event.[4]
A welterweight bout betweenSheldon Westcott andEdgar García, originally scheduled forUFC Fight Night: Namajunas vs. VanZant was moved to this event.[7]
A lightweight bout betweenDustin Poirier andJoseph Duffy was originally booked as main event forUFC Fight Night: Holohan vs. Smolka. However, the bout was canceled on fight week due to Duffy sustaining a concussion during a sparring session.[8] The fight was later rescheduled for this event.[9]
Neil Magny was briefly scheduled to faceStephen Thompson at the event. However, on November 3, Magny was pulled from the pairing in favor of a matchup withKelvin Gastelum atThe Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2 Finale.[10] Thompson was expected to remain on the card, but on December 13 it was announced that he was going to face former UFC Welterweight championJohny Hendricks atUFC 196.[11]
Russell Doane was briefly scheduled to faceMichinori Tanaka at the event.[12] However, Doane was pulled from the pairing for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by formerBellator Featherweight champion and one timeUFC Bantamweight Championship challengerJoe Soto.[13]
Erik Koch was expected to faceDrew Dober at this event. However, on December 4, Koch was forced to pull out of the event due to injury and was replaced byScott Holtzman.[14]
Kelvin Gastelum was expected to faceKyle Noke at this event. However, on December 22, Gastelum was forced to pull out due to a wrist injury and was replaced by promotional newcomerAlex Morono.[15]
On March 23, it was announced thatDiego Brandão tested positive formarijuana metabolites and was issued a temporary suspension by theNevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).[16] He was eventually suspended on May 19 for a period of nine months byUSADA, retroactive to the date of the fight.[17]
