Incryptography,UES (Universal Encryption Standard) is ablock cipher designed in 1999 byHelena Handschuh andSerge Vaudenay. They proposed it as a transitional step, to prepare for the completion of theAES process.
UES was designed with the same interface asAES: ablock size of 128 bits andkey size of 128, 192, or 256 bits. It consists of two parallelTriple DES encryptions on the halves of the block, withkey whitening and key-dependent swapping of bits between the halves. Thekey schedule is taken fromDEAL.
