Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 G2 is aprotein that in humans is encoded by theUBE2G2gene.[5][6][7]
The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three classes of enzymes:ubiquitin-activating enzymes, or E1s,ubiquin-conjugating enzymes, or E2s, andubiquitin-protein ligases, or E3s. This gene encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. The encoded protein shares 100% sequence identity with the mouse counterpart. This gene is ubiquitously expressed, with highexpression seen in adult muscle. Twoalternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinctisoforms have been found for this gene.[7] Ube2g2 is known to interact with a variety of other proteins, including ubiquitin, theAMFR (E3 gp78), and theSYVN1 (Hrd1 RING).
