U.S. Highway 18 (US 18) is a part of theUnited States Numbered Highway System that travels fromOrin, Wyoming, toMilwaukee, Wisconsin. In the state ofSouth Dakota, US 18 runs from theWyoming border east to theIowa border. The highway runs parallel to the state's southern border withNebraska, and at one point, nearFairfax, US 18 comes within one mile to the Nebraska border.

US 18 entersSouth Dakota west ofEdgemont. It passes throughHot Springs, thePine Ridge Indian Reservation, theRosebud Indian Reservation,Winner, andGregory, before crossing theMissouri River nearPickstown overFort Randall Dam. East of the Missouri River, US 18 passes through (or near)Lake Andes andTripp before a briefconcurrency withInterstate 29 (I-29) nearWorthing. East of I-29, US 18 passes throughCanton before crossing theBig Sioux River intoIowa.[2]
