Tynorphin is asyntheticopioid peptide which is apotent andcompetitiveinhibitor of theenkephalinase class ofenzymes which break down theendogenousenkephalinpeptides.[1] It specifically inactivatesdipeptidyl aminopeptidase III (DPP3) with very highefficacy, but also inhibitsneutral endopeptidase (NEP),aminopeptidase N (APN), andangiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) to a lesser extent.[1] It has apentapeptidestructure with theamino acid sequence Val-Val-Tyr-Pro-Trp (VVYPW).

Tynorphin was discovered in an attempt to develop an enkephalinase inhibitor of greater potency thanspinorphin.[1]
