Tyler Johnson is an American record producer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. He is an 8-timeGrammy Award nominee, and 3-time Grammy Award winner.[1]

Early life

Johnson was born and raised inSteamboat Springs, Colorado.[2][3] After relocating to Los Angeles, he started out his career as an assistant to producerJeff Bhasker.[4][5]

Career

Johnson was nominated for aGrammy Award for his work as an engineer onTaylor Swift's 2012 albumRed, and was nominated for a second Grammy for his work as a producer and engineer onEd Sheeran's 2014 albumx.[1]

Johnson co-produced the 2015 albumUntamed by country artistCam,[6] co-writing eight tracks, including the singles "Mayday",[7] "My Mistake", and "Burning House",[8] which reached #2 on theBillboardCountry Airplay andHot Country Songs charts[9] and became Johnson's first platinum-selling record.[10] He also produced 10 songs on Cam's 2020 albumThe Otherside, co-writing 6 of them.[11][12]

On January 19, 2018, Johnson released his debut single as a solo artist, "Give Up On Me".[13]

Johnson co-wrote and producedHarry Styles' 2017 debutself-titled solo album,[4] the 2019 follow-upFine Line,[14] including "Watermelon Sugar",[15] which went to number one on theBillboardHot 100,[16] Styles' third studio album,Harry's House, which won aGrammy Award for Album of the Year at the65th Annual Grammy Awards, and its lead single, "As It Was", which spent 15 non-consecutive weeks at number one on theBillboard Hot 100 and was thebest-selling global single of 2022.

Johnson won aGrammy Award for Record of the Year for producingMiley Cyrus's 2023 single "Flowers",[2] which spent 8 weeks at number 1 on theBillboard Hot 100.[17] He was also nominated forAlbum of the Year for his work writing and producing six tracks on Cyrus's albumEndless Summer Vacation.[2]

In 2024, Johnson co-wrote and co-produced two songs ("Amen" and "Ameriican Requiem") onBeyoncé's Grammy-nominated albumCowboy Carter.[18] He also wrote and produced onHalsey's albumThe Great Impersonator[19] andChildish Gambino'sBando Stone & the New World.[20]

As a writer, producer, and engineer, Johnson has also worked with artists includingKeith Urban,John Legend,Diplo,Pink,OneRepublic,Sam Smith,Meghan Trainor,Toni Braxton,070 Shake, andLeon Bridges.[2][5][13][21][22][23]
