Twisted Pictures is an Americanproduction company and adivision ofEvolution Entertainment that specializes inhorror andthriller films. The company was founded by Evolution'sGregg Hoffman,Oren Koules andMark Burg in 2004. The company is known for producing theSaw franchise.
In 2004, followingEvolution Entertainment's pre-release success withSaw, its executives,Mark Burg,Oren Koules, andGregg Hoffman, founded Twisted Pictures as Evolutions'sdivision for films in thehorror genre.[1]Saw was released in October 2004 and became a success at thebox office, leadingLionsgate Films, the film's distributor, to sign a nine-picture deal with Twisted Pictures in November that year.[2] Twisted Pictures has since produced all installments in theSaw franchise. Carl Mazzocone served as president for four years.[3]
In June 2007, the company formed ajoint venture withRKO Pictures to remake four films from the latter's library, namelyFive Came Back (1939),I Walked with a Zombie (1943),The Body Snatcher (1945), andBedlam (1946).[4][5] None of these films ever came to fruition.
In October 2009, Twisted Pictures landed a deal withThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre's rights holders, Bob Kuhn andKim Henkel, after discussions with the film's production company,Platinum Dunes, fell apart. The deal was stated to cover multiple pictures.[6]
In June 2025,Blumhouse entered talks to acquire theSaw franchise from Twisted Pictures, potentially giving co-creatorsJames Wan andLeigh Whannell greater creative control following the merger of his company,Atomic Monster, with Blumhouse.[7]
