Tuvalu–United Kingdom relations are the foreign andbilateral relations betweenTuvalu and theUnited Kingdom.

Both countries share common membership of theCommonwealth, theUnited Nations, and theWorld Health Organization. Bilaterally the two countries have a Double Taxation Arrangement.[1]

History

The UK governedTuvalu from 1892 until 1978, when Tuvalu achieved full independence.

Economic relations

The Tuvalu is eligible to accede to thePacific States–United Kingdom Economic Partnership Agreement, afree trade agreement with the United Kingdom.[2]

Following thewithdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, the UK andPacific States signed the Pacific States–United Kingdom Economic Partnership Agreement on 14 March 2019. The Pacific States–United Kingdom Economic Partnership Agreement is acontinuity trade agreement, based on theEU free trade agreement, which entered into force on 1 January 2021.[3][4] Trade value between the Pacific States and the United Kingdom was worth £286 million in 2022.[5]

Diplomatic missions

  • Tuvalu maintains anhonorary consulate in London.[6]
  • The United Kingdom is not accredited to Tuvalu through a high commission; the UK develops relations through itshigh commission in Suva, Fiji.[7]
