Turoš[pronunciation?] is a type ofcheese made fromcattle'smilk. It is a traditional food in the northCroatian region ofMeđimurje.
Turoš is made bycone-shaping chunks ofcottage cheese, with the addition ofsalt andred paprika. Because it is spiced with red paprika, the cheese is usually lightorange orapricot in colour. The height of the cones is usually around 6 centimetres. Upon shaping, the cheese is left to dry insmoke orsunlight over a few days.
The nameturoš comes from thehomophonousHungarian wordtúrós, meaning "of cottage cheese" or "ofcurd cheese".Túró is the Hungariannoun for both "cottage cheese" and "curd cheese".
