Troy T. Dumas (born September 30, 1972) is an American former professionalfootball player who was alinebacker in theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theNebraska Cornhuskers. He wasdrafted in the third round (97th overall) by theKansas City Chiefs.
He also played for theSt. Louis Rams of theNational Football League (NFL) as well as theLas Vegas Outlaws of theXFL. He became a coach after his playing career.
Dumas attended theUniversity of Nebraska where he was a member of four consecutiveBig Eight Conference championship teams. Four teams that also competed in theFedExOrange Bowl (1991-1994).[1] He playeddefensive back for his first three seasons before converting to linebacker as senior in1994. Following his senior season, he was a First-team All-Conference selection and was a semi-finalist for theButkus Award. He graduated from Nebraska with aBachelor's degree inHuman resources and family sciences.[1]
Dumas was selected in the third round (97th overall) of the1995 NFL draft by theKansas City Chiefs.[2] He ended up missing his entirerookie season after injuring hisknee in the second preseason game, against theArizona Cardinals.[3] In1996, he appeared in six games, at both linebacker and onspecial teams. In1997, appeared mostly on special teams, it was during this season he recorded his only careersack. Midway through the season, he joined theSt. Louis Rams, appearing in two games for them. On July 8, 1998, he was released by the Rams.[4] On January 5, 1999, he signed with theDenver Broncos.[4] However, he was released on August 26, 1999.[4]
In 2000, he joined theOrlando Predators, as afullback / linebacker, of theArena Football League. While there, he recorded five tackles, and two carries for four yards. In 2001, he joined theLas Vegas Outlaws of theXFL for its lone season.
Dumas began his coaching career as anassistant coach atCheyenne Central High School.[1] He then became the defensive coordinator, linebacker and defensive ends coach atDoane College.[1]
In early 2008, he joined the coaching staff atSoutheast Missouri State as the teams linebackers coach.[5][6] That same year, he also earned an NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Kansas City Chiefs.[7]
