Thetropical small-eared shrew (Cryptotis tropicalis) is a very smallmammal of the familySoricidae. The species is found in the eastern highlands of theMexican state ofChiapas and parts ofBelize andGuatemala. Until recently, it was considered a subspecies of theNorth American least shrew (C. parva), but it has gained species status. Its relationship with theCentral American least shrew (C. orophila) remains to be studied.
