Tritellurium dichloride is theinorganic compound with the formulaTe3Cl2. It is one of the more stable lower chlorides of tellurium.
Te3Cl2 is a gray solid. Its structure consists of a long chain oftellurium (Te) atoms, with every third Te center carrying two chlorideligands for the repeat unit -Te-Te-TeCl2-.[1] It is asemiconductor with aband gap of 1.52 eV, which is larger than that for elemental Te (0.34 eV).[2] It is prepared by heating tellurium with the appropriatestoichiometry of chlorine.[3]
