Tripolis (Ancient Greek:Τρίπολις), formerlyIschopolis (Ἰσχόπολις), was an ancient fortress city inPontus Polemoniacus (aka thePontus region), on a river of the same name,[dubious –discuss] and with a tolerably good harbour; it is now the site and namesake of the city ofTirebolu inGiresun Province,Black Sea Region,Turkey.[1][2] It belonged to theMossynoeci and was situated at a distance of 18 km (11 mi) east fromCape Zephyrium.[3] The place is situated on a rocky headland.[4]
