Chemical compound

Triphenylethanol, or1,1,2-triphenylethanol, is anorganic compound with acondensed structural formula of(C
6H
5)
2C(OH)CH
2C
6H
5, and is related totriphenylethylene, from which it can be prepared byhydration. It is thestructural analog of twodrugs, the never-marketedantiestrogenethamoxytriphetol (MER-25)[1]: 7  and the withdrawnlipid-lowering agenttriparanol,[2] as both contain the 1,1,2-triphenylethanolmoiety within their structure.

There are threeisomeric compounds with a "triphenylethanol" structure:

  • 1,1,2-triphenylethanol;
  • 1,2,2-triphenylethanol, with a condensed structural formula of(C
    6    H
    5    )
    2    CHCH(C
    6    H
    5    )OH    , which exists as a pair ofenantiomers; and,
  • 2,2,2-triphenylethanol, with a condensed structural formula of(C
    6    H
    5    )
    3    CCH
    2    OH    .
