Trevor Hancock was the first leader of theGreen Party of Canada and a family physician.[1] Under his leadership, the party ran 60 candidates in the1984 federal election.[2] He is a public healthphysician, and a retired professor and senior scholar at the School of Public Health and Social Policy at theUniversity of Victoria.[3] He obtained his degree in medicine at theUniversity of London and his degree in health science at theUniversity of Toronto.[4] He also consults with theWorld Health Organization.[1] Together withDr. Leonard Duhl, he created theHealthy Cities project that looks atenvironmental aspects of sustainableurban development as a determinant ofhealth. In 2005, Hancock was also instrumental in initiatingBC Healthy Communities – a provincial initiative focused on building capacity forhealthy municipal governance.
