Theyellow-footed green pigeon (Treron phoenicopterus), also known asyellow-legged green pigeon, is a commonspecies ofgreen pigeon found in theIndian subcontinent and parts ofSoutheast Asia.[2] It is thestate bird ofMaharashtra.[3][4] InMarathi, it is calledHaroli orHariyal. It is known asHaitha inUpper Assam andHaitol inLower Assam. The species feeds on fruit, including many species ofFicus. They forage in flocks. They are habitat generalists:[5] in the early morning, they are often seensunning on the tops ofemergent trees in dense forest areas, especiallyBanyan trees,[6] but they have also been spotted in natural remnants inurban areas.[5] Their population is currently increasing.[5]
This species is extant inPakistan,India,Nepal,Sri Lanka,Bangladesh,Bhutan,Myanmar,China,Thailand,Vietnam,Laos andCambodia.[2]
