Tremblay-en-France (French pronunciation:[tʁɑ̃blɛɑ̃fʁɑ̃s],lit.'Tremblay inFrance'; before 1989:Tremblay-lès-Gonesse,[3]lit.'TremblaynearGonesse') is acommune in the north-eastern suburbs ofParis,France. It is located 19.5 km (12.1 mi) from thecentre of Paris.

More than one-quarter ofCharles de Gaulle Airport lies within the territory of the commune of Tremblay-en-France, in particular terminals 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D (the other terminals lie in the territory of other communes). It is the largest, by area, of the so-calledpetite couronne (inner ring) suburbs of Paris. The corporate head office ofAir France andOEMServices lie within Tremblay.

History

TheHôtel de Ville

Originally called Tremblay-lès-Gonesse (meaning "TremblaynearGonesse"), the commune was officially renamed Tremblay-en-France (meaning "Tremblay in thepays de France", seeRoissy-en-France for an explanation) on 20 August 1989.[3] TheHôtel de Ville was completed in January 1981.[4]

Transport

The part ofParis-Charles de Gaulle Airport that lies within the territory of the commune of Tremblay-en-France is served by two stations on ParisRER lineRER B:Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 andAéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 – TGV. This last station is an interchange station withTGV national rail lines.

The inhabited area of Tremblay-en-France, however, is served byVert-Galant station on ParisRER lineRER B. This station is located at the border between the commune of Tremblay-en-France and the commune ofVillepinte, on the Villepinte side of the border.

Air France's head office is located in the Roissypôle complex,[5][6] on the grounds ofCharles de Gaulle Airport and in Tremblay-en-France.[7][8][9] The complex opened in December 1995.[5] The complex also has the head office ofAir France-KLM.[10]ASL Airlines France has its head office in the Bâtiment Le Séquoia in the commune.[11]Servair, an Air France subsidiary, has its head office in Continental Square.[12]Paris Aéroport is also headquartered on the airport grounds and in Tremblay.[13]

At one pointVirgin Express France (originally named Air Provence Charter), a subsidiary ofVirgin Express, had its headquarters in Tremblay.[14]

Tremblay-en-France has 12écoles maternelles, 14écoles élémentaires, threecollèges, and twolycées. Thecollèges are Descartes, R. Rolland, and P. de Ronsard.[15] Thelycées areLycée Enseignement Professionnel Hélène Boucher andLycée Polyvalent Léonard de Vinci.[16][17] The École Pierre-Brossolette had been targeted for closure, prompting protests from students asking the commune to not have the school closed.[18]
