Trash Boat are a Britishpunk rock band formed inSt Albans in 2014.[4] The group consist of Tobi Duncan (lead vocals), Dann Bostock (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Ryan Hyslop (lead guitar), James Grayson (bass, backing vocals), and Oakley Moffatt (drums).

The group have released twoEPs, and four studio albums.Look Alive was released independently in 2014, whileBrainwork was released after signing withHopeless Records in 2015. The band's debut album,Nothing I Write You Can Change What You've Been Through, was released on 17 June 2016; their second,Crown Shyness, was released on 20 July 2018; and the band's third albumDon't You Feel Amazing? was released on 13 August 2021. The band's latest album,Heaven Can Wait, was released on 4 October 2024.

Formation and debut EP (2014)

The group was formed inSt Albans in 2014, taking their name from an episode ofRegular Show.[5] The band independently released their first EP,Look Alive, 23 June 2014.[6]

Signing andNothing I Write You Can Change What You've Been Through (2015–2017)

On 17 March 2015, Trash Boat announced their signing toHopeless Records[7] and released an EP titledBrainwork on 18 May 2015.[8] On 24 May 2015, the group performed at the 2015Slam Dunk Festival.[9] In August 2015, Trash Boat supportedNew Found Glory on a tour in England.[10] The band's debut album,Nothing I Write You Can Change What You've Been Through, was released on 17 June 2016.[11] The group performed at the 2016Reading and Leeds Festivals.[12] Throughout December of the same year, Trash Boat supportedBeartooth on the group's UK tour.[13]

Crown Shyness (2018–2020)

The band announced their second studio album,Crown Shyness, on 14 May 2018 alongside the lead single "Shade".[14] The album was released on 20 July, debuting at No. 2 onBillboard'sHeatseekers Albums Chart.[15]

Trash Boat then released the single "Synthetic Sympathy" on 29 August 2019. The Band covered theLinkin Park song "Given Up" for the compilation albumSongs That Saved My Life Volume 2.

Don't You Feel Amazing? (2021–present)

In February 2021, Trash Boat released the single "He's So Good" as well as merchandise inspired by the song. The profit from these designs is being donated to LGBTQ+ Youth charity groupAKT.

Musical style and influences

The group's music has been characterized aspop punk,[16][17]melodic hardcore,[18][19]skate punk[20][21] andpost-hardcore[22][23] however heavier than a majority of their peers thanks to a "purer and grittier style", Duncan's raw and emotional voice and theirpunk (rather than pop)-leanings.[24][25] All of the band members have been influenced by pop punk and punk artists while vocalist Tobi Duncan's interests inhardcore punk andmetal music and Bostock'sska influence have also shaped the group's sound.[26][27] The band have also cited influences from bands such asHave Heart,Trophy Eyes,Turnstile,La Dispute,Can't Swim,Movements,[28]Title Fight,[29]the Misfits,the Sex Pistols,[30]Rise Against,Thrice,Blink-182[31] andSum 41.[19] Duncan has cited the poetsW. B. Yeats andEmily Brontë as a major influence on his lyric writing.[32]
