TheTrac 16 (sometimes styled as theTRAC-16 orTrac-16) is an Americancatamaransailboat that was designed bySteve Nichols as aday sailer and first built in 1983.[1][2]
The design was built in the United States by the AMF Alcort division ofAmerican Machine and Foundry, starting in 1983. A total of 600 boats were completed, but it is now out of production.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
The Trac 16 is a recreationalsailing dinghy, with afractionalsloop rig and its hulls built offiberglass. The hulls haveraked stems and plumbtransoms with dual transom-hungrudders controlled by atiller. The boat displaces 359 lb (163 kg).[1][2]
The boat has nokeels, but the hulls are asymmetrical and the "banana" shape provides some counter toleeway when sailing upwind. The boat has a draft of 9 in (23 cm), allowing operation in shallow water, beaching or ground transportation on atrailer.[1][2]
The design has ahull speed of 5.35 kn (9.91 km/h).[2]
