Álvaro Luis Bernat "Tony"Dalton (born February 13, 1975) is an American and Mexican actor. For much of his career, he has acted in Mexican films, television shows, and stage plays. He is best known for his portrayal ofLalo Salamanca inBetter Call Saul (2018–2022). He also starred asJack Duquesne/Swordsman in theMarvel Cinematic Universe miniseriesHawkeye (2021) and the seriesDaredevil: Born Again (2025).

Early life

Álvaro Luis Bernat Dalton was born inLaredo, Texas, on February 13, 1975,[1][2] the son of an American mother and Mexican father,[3] and grew up in Mexico City.[4] He attended theEaglebrook School inDeerfield, Massachusetts,[3] before studying acting at New York City'sLee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.[4]

Career

Dalton's first major role was on the Mexican telenovelaRebelde (2004–2006).[3] His first film role was inMatando Cabos (2004), which he also co-wrote. He later wrote and starred inSultanes del Sur (2007). His other film credits includeViolanchelo (2008) andThe Perfect Dictatorship (2014).[citation needed] He also played a supporting role in theHBO Latin America seriesCapadocia (2008). He played the lead in the HBO seriesSr. Ávila (2017), which won the International Emmy award for Best Non-English Language Series.[3]

Dalton portrayedLalo Salamanca inBetter Call Saul (2018–2022), first appearing in theseason 4 episode "Coushatta".[5][6][7] His performance received critical acclaim, earning him nominations for oneScreen Actors Guild Award and twoSaturn Awards, while some critics deemed Lalo one of the best villains on television.[8][9] He was cast asJack Duquesne in the miniseriesHawkeye (2021) after producerTrinh Tran was impressed with his performance inBetter Call Saul.[10][11]
