Tommy Mellott (/məˈlɑt/; born March 30, 2001) is an American professionalfootballwide receiver. He playedcollege football as aquarterback for theMontana State Bobcats and was selected by theLas Vegas Raiders in the sixth round of the2025 NFL draft.

Early life and high school

Mellott was born and raised inButte, Montana to parents Shane and Dina Mellott.[1][2] He attendedButte High School.[3] As a senior, he completed 191 of 300 pass attempts for 2,940 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for 1,217 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named the Montana Gatorade Player of the Year.[4][5] Mellott committed to play college football at Montana State.[6]

College career

Mellott began his freshman season with the Montana State Bobcats playing wide receiver and on special teams.[7] He took over as the Bobcats starting quarterback prior to the team's game againstUT Martin in opening round of the2021 FCS Playoffs led Montana State to the2022 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game.[8] Mellott suffered a serious ankle injury on the first offensive drive of the game and the team lost 38–10 toNorth Dakota State.[9] Mellott finished the season with 484 passing yards and four touchdown passes while also rushing for 716 yards and eight touchdowns.[10]

As a sophomore, Mellott was named second-team All-Big Sky Conference after he passed for 1,698 yards and 10 touchdowns with 4 interceptions and rushed for 1,071 yards and 13 touchdowns.[11] He repeated as a second-team All-Big Sky selection as a junior despite missing time due to injury and finished the season with 1,064 passing yards and 10 touchdowns with two interceptions and 689 rushing yards and five touchdowns.[12][13]

Mellott’s first major game of his junior season came againstSacramento State, where he led the team in passing Mellott with 99 yards and ran for 2 touchdowns on the ground as the Bobcats held their own against the number 3 rankedHornets, winning 42-30.[14] Mellott and the Bobcats would be upset the next week by the number 9 rankedIdaho Vandals in a 24-21 loss.[15] Montana State would go on to thepostseason, where they would lose to theNorth Dakota State Bison inovertime 35-34 in the second round.[16] Mellott would earn his second consecutive second-team All-Big Sky appearance during his junior season.

Mellott started off his senior season leading the Bobcats to a 35-31 upset victory in week 0 overNew Mexico.[17] Mellott and the Bobcats would carry through 11 straight wins, ending the regular season with a 12-0 record. Montana State would reach theFCS Championship Game, but would lose to North Dakota State 35-32.

Las Vegas Raiders

Mellott was selected by theLas Vegas Raiders with the 213th overall pick in the sixth round of the2025 NFL draft.[20][21]Mellott changed positions towide receiver after being drafted by the Raiders.[22] He was waived on August 26 as part of final roster cuts.[23]

New Orleans Saints

On September 1, 2025, Mellott was signed to theNew Orleans Saints' practice squad.[24] He was released on October 7.[25]
