Thomas Alexander Stallard (born 11 September 1978) is a British formerrower and motorsport engineer who currently works for theMcLaren F1 Team as the race engineer forOscar Piastri.

Early and personal life

Thomas Alexander Stallard was born on 11 September 1978 inLondon,England.[1][2] His father, Matt, was a rower for theUniversity of London.[3][4]

Rowing career

Stallard began rowing at the age of 13, eventually participating at theWorld Rowing U19 Championships in 1996. In university, he attended theUniversity of Cambridge, where he rowed in theCambridge University Boat Club (CUBC). Stallard competed in theUniversity Boat Races between1999 and2002, winning in1999 and2001. He was the president of CUBC for the 2002 season.[4][5]

Stallard's firstOlympics was at the2004 Summer Olympics inAthens. Competing for Team GB, his team finished ninth out of nine boats. Stallard participated at the2008 Summer Olympics inBeijing, winning a silver medal for Great Britain in themen's eight.[4][6][7]

Formula One

After retiring from rowing, Stallard joined theMcLarenFormula One team as a simulator test engineer. He later became the performance engineer forJenson Button, and was eventually promoted torace engineer in 2014.[8] In addition to Button, he has also served as the race engineer forStoffel Vandoorne,Carlos Sainz Jr.,Daniel Ricciardo andOscar Piastri.[6][9]
