Todagin Wildlife Management Area is awildlife management area located southeast ofIskut in northwesternBritish Columbia. It was established by theBritish Columbia Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) on 19 March 2001 to conserve and manage critical habitat forstone sheep.[2] It is the largestwildlife management area in British Columbia at 122,787 ha (303,410 acres).[3]
Todagin Wildlife Management Area covers a large area of the northernKlappan Range stretching from Maitland Creek to Ealue Lake between theIskut andKlappan rivers. It surrounds the smaller, less strictly protectedTodagin South Slope Provincial Park.[4]
The wildlife management area also is home toMaitland Volcano, an extinct volcano that is located in the Klappan Range.[5]
Thehighlands provide habitat fordwarf ericaceous shrubs,dwarf birch,willow,grass, andlichen. By contrast, the broad valley bottoms provide habitat for dense forests ofblack spruce,white spruce, andalpine fir.[3]
Resident mammal species includegrizzly bear,wolf,moose,woodland caribou,mountain goat,stone sheep, andhoary marmot. Resident bird species includenorthern goshawk,great horned owl,yellow-bellied sapsucker,green-winged teal,blue-listedshort-eared owl, and locally endangeredHudsonian godwit.[3]
