Antonio García Aranda (born 7 November 1989), known asToño (Spanish pronunciation:[ˈtoɲo]), is a Spanish professionalfootballer who plays as aleft-back.

Club career

Born inAlcalá de Henares,Community of Madrid, Toño made his debut as a senior withAtlético Saguntino inthe regional leagues. He signed withCD Castellón in summer 2009, being assigned tothe reserves also in the fifth division.

Toño played his first match as a professional on 5 September 2009, featuring the last 14 minutes of a 2–0 away loss againstRecreativo de Huelva in theSegunda División.[2] He was handed his first start on the 26th, in a 1–3 home defeat toRayo Vallecano.[3]

Toño was definitely promoted to the first team in August 2010, with theValencians now in theSegunda División B.[4] He appeared in 25 matches duringthe season, but the club dropped another level due to financial problems.

On 9 June 2011, Toño joinedVillarreal CF'sreserves for a25,000 fee.[5] He acted mainly as a backup toPere Martínez, playing 18 times as they wererelegated from division two.

On 15 January 2013, Toño was loaned toCE Sabadell FC until June.[6] In February, however, he suffered a severe knee injury which sidelined him for the remainder ofthe campaign.[7]

On 5 January 2014, Toño moved toRecreativo de Huelva after agreeing to an 18-month contract,[8] with his former team also having a buy-back option.[9] He appeared regularly for theAndalusians during his short spell, totaling 1,055 minutes of action to help to afinal eighth position.

Toño signed a five-year deal withLa Liga sideLevante UD on 26 August 2014, for an undisclosed fee.[10] He made his debut in the competition 13 September, starting in a 0–0 away draw againstMálaga CF.[11]

Toño scored his first goal in theSpanish top flight – and as a professional – on 30 September 2018, helping the hosts defeatDeportivo Alavés 2–1.[12][13] He left on 30 June 2021, after his contract expired.[14]

On 2 August 2021, Toño signed a one-year deal withSD Eibar,recently relegated to the second tier.[15]

Personal life

Toño's father, also named Antonio, was agoalkeeper. He appeared in the Spanish top division withValencia CF in the 80s.[16]

In February 2019, Toño was arrested on suspicion ofmoney laundering andextortion.[17] He was released the following month, without bail.[18]
