Tirupathur district[2][3] is one of the 38 districts in the southern Indian state ofTamil Nadu. The district was formed in 2019 by the division ofVellore district into three smaller districts.[4] Its creation alongsideRanipet district was announced on 15 August 2019, and it was officially declared on 28 November 2019.[2] The town ofTirupattur serves as the district headquarters.[5][6][7][8][9]

Geography

The district is bordered byVellore district to the northeast,Krishnagiri district to the southwest,Tiruvannamalai district to the southeast, and theChittoor district ofAndhra Pradesh to the northwest.National Highway 48 passes through the district.

Tirupattur district was created by the splitting off of the three southwesterntaluks of Vellore district:Tirupattur,Vaniyambadi, andAmbur.[10] The district now includesNatrampalli for a total of four taluks.[2]

Tiruppattur, Vellore Assembly constituency is the assembly constituency. Since 2016 Tiruppattur, Vellore Assembly constituency is represented in theTamil Nadu Legislative Assembly byA Nallathambi ofDMK party.[11] He was reelected in 2021.[12][13]
