Tirelli Costumi Roma is aRome-based costume house, which makes and supplies period costumes to motion picture productions. It has been sited, along withCostumi d'Arte and Peruzzi, as one of the best resources for 18th-century costumes.[1]

History

The company was founded by Umberto Tirelli in 1964, following Tirelli's apprenticeship as a costume maker onThe Leopard.[2][3]

In addition to their film work, Tirelli Costumi has supplied and created costumes for stage productions. Their first was a production ofTosca atTeatro dell'Opera, a production directed by Mauro Bolognini with costumes by Anna Anni.Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino,Teatro Comunale di Bologna,Sferisterio di Macerata,La Fenice inVenice,La Scala inMilan,Teatro Regio inParma,Teatro di San Carlo inNaples,Teatro Municipale Giuseppe Verdi inSalerno,Teatro Massimo Bellini inCatania,Teatro Petruzzelli inBari,Teatro de la Maestranza inSeville,Teatro Massimo inPalermo,Teatro Comunale inFerrara,Teatro delle Muse inAncona,Teatro Flavio Vespasiano inRieti, Teatro di Palma inMajorca,Teatro Pérez Galdós onGran Canaria,Théâtre du Capitole inToulouse, theLiceu inBarcelona,Teatro Colón inBuenos Aires,Teatro Municipal inSantiago, theNew National Theatre inTokyo, theIsraeli Opera House inTel Aviv andRoyal Opera House inMuscat, Oman. Productions at theFestival Internacional de Santander,Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, theRavenna Festival andOlbe A.B.A.O. Bilbao have utilized Tirelli garments.

As of 2019, Tirelli's fitting and administrative offices are located in the former residence ofMarcello Mastroianni, while the company's warehouses are nearby, just outside Rome's city limits.[1]
