Valentino Francisco Livramento (born 12 November 2002) is an English professionalfootballer who plays as afull-back forPremier League clubNewcastle United and theEngland national team.
Born inCroydon,Greater London, Livramento joinedChelsea at under-9 level from local club Roundshaw.[3][4][5][6] At Roundshaw he played as a striker.[7] Growing up, he supported Chelsea.[8] His father's side of the family comes from Portugal[9] and his mother is Scottish.[10]
Livramento was named Chelsea academy player of the year for the 2020–21 season.[11] Towards the end of the season, he featured on the bench in Premier League fixtures againstManchester City andArsenal.[12][13]
In July 2021, contract talks between Chelsea and Livramento stalled, with rumours that the wing-back was set to leave the club.[5][14] He was reportedly subject to interest from a host of English clubs, includingSouth Coast rivalsSouthampton andBrighton & Hove Albion, as well asAC Milan andRB Leipzig.[5][15]
Having failed to reach an agreement with Chelsea, Livramento signed for fellowPremier League sideSouthampton in August 2021, with a reported buy-back and sell-on clauses included.[4] On 14 August 2021, Livramento made his first Premier League appearance for Southampton in a 3–1 defeat toEverton.[16] On 23 October 2021, Livramento scored his first professional goal in Southampton's 2–2 draw withBurnley.[17] On 24 April 2022, Livramento was ruled out for the remainder of 2022 following anACL injury during Southampton's 2–2 draw with Brighton.[18]
On 21 May 2023, Livramento made his first appearance for Southampton in 392 days during a 3–1 defeat to Brighton, replacingJames Bree in the 77th minute.[19]
On 8 August 2023, Livramento joinedNewcastle United, signing a five-year contract.[20] Although the fee was officially undisclosed, it was reported to be worth an initial £32 million, plus £8 million in add-ons.[21] Livramento made his debut for Newcastle in a 1–0 defeat againstManchester City in the Premier League.[22] He made hisUEFA Champions League debut againstBorussia Dortmund, starting Newcastle's final 3 group stage matches, however they were unable to progress from their group.[23]
In March 2024 Livramento scored his first goal for the club in a 3–0 victory againstWolverhampton Wanderers, running the length of the pitch before poking it under thegoalkeeper.[24] He started in the2025 EFL Cup final as Newcastle defeatedLiverpool to win their first domestic trophy for seventy years.[25]
Despite Livramento representing England through the youth ranks up to Under-21 level, he is also eligible to play for the Scotland and Portugal national teams through his mother being Scottish and his father being Portuguese.[26][failed verification]
On 27 August 2021, Livramento received his first call up for theEngland U21s.[27] On 7 September 2021, he made his England U21 debut during the 2–02023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification win overKosovo U21s atStadium MK.[28]
On 29 August 2024, Livramento was called up to theEngland senior squad for the first time forUEFA Nations League matches againstRepublic of Ireland andFinland.[29] He made his senior debut on 17 November 2024 in a 5–0 victory against the Republic of Ireland.[30]
Livramento was included in the England squad for the2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship which was the only international youth tournament he ever attended.[31] He started in the quarter-final victory overSpain and semi-final win againstNetherlands.[32][33] Livramento then played every minute of thefinal as England defeatedGermany after extra time to lift the trophy.[34] His performances during the competition resulted in him being chosen by the UEFA Technical Observer panel for their team of the tournament.[35]
