Timofey Dmitriyevich Skatov (Russian:Тимофей Дмитриевич Скатов; born 21 January 2001) is aKazakhtennis player. He has a career-high ATP singles ranking of World No. 123, achieved on 11 September 2023 and No. 627 in doubles, achieved on 17 July 2023. Skatov had a career-highITF junior combined ranking of No. 1 achieved on 1 January 2018.[1] He is the current No. 4 Kazakh player.[2]
Skatov made his ATP debut at the2020 Astana Open in Nur-Sultan as a wildcard where he lost toEmil Ruusuvuori.
In June 2021, he reached his first Challenger final as a wildcard inAlmaty where he lost toZizou Bergs.
He won his first ATP match also as a wildcard at the2021 Astana Open in Kazakhstan defeatingAndreas Seppi.[3][4]
Skatov made his first Grand Slam main draw appearance after successfully making it all the way through in the2022 Australian Open qualifications, defeatingHugo Grenier,Dane Sweeny, andGastão Elias.[5]He lost in the first round to Slovakian qualifierNorbert Gombos.[6]
He won his second Challenger title as an alternate at the2022 Parma Challenger. As a result, he moved 57 positions up and reached a new career-high just outside the top 150 at No. 152 on 10 October 2022.[7]
He reached the top 125 on 13 February 2023 after making theConcepción final in January, losing againstFederico Coria.
He made his2023 French Open main draw debut after defeatingGabriel Diallo,Otto Virtanen andFelipe Meligeni Alves, where he lost againstGrigor Dimitrov in the first round.[8]He also made his debut at the2023 US Open defeating twelfth seedJames Duckworth in the last round of the qualifying competition. He lost to another AustralianAlex de Minaur in the first round in four sets.
In May 2024, he won his second Challenger title at the2024 Schwaben Open with a win overElmer Møller and returned to the top 200 in the rankings at No. 199 on 27 May 2024.[9]Ranked No. 189, he qualified for the main draw of the2024 US Open for a second consecutive year, but lost toHubert Hurkacz in the first round.
Skatov was born inPetropavl, Kazakhstan to Russian parents, and moved toTula, Russia at the age of 1. He represented Russia internationally from 2015 to 2018.[10] In May 2018, Skatov switched nationalities to represent his birth country,Kazakhstan. He lives inValencia and has been training at the Lozano Altur Tennis Academy in Valencia since 2017.[11]
