December 11PresidentDonald Trump issues a federal pardon forTina Peters who is serving a nine year sentence for election tampering in Colorado. Colorado officials ignore the federal pardon.[7]
December 1TheUnited States Department of Energy announces that theNational Renewable Energy Laboratory has been renamed theNational Laboratory of the Rockies.[8] This renaming reflects theProject 2025 effort to impede renewable energy research in the United States.[9][10]
September 10A 16-year-oldEvergreen High School student opens fire at the school, seriously wounding two students and then killing himself.[11]
August 2Lightening ignites theLee Fire nearMeeker. Thewildfire will burn over 216 square miles (560 km2).[12][13]
July 27American Airlines Flight 3023, aBoeing 737 MAX 8 plane carrying 173 passengers and six crew members on board, aborted takeoff in Denver after a suspected landing gear failure and a fire forced passengers to evacuate via emergency slides. One person was taken a medical facility and five people were evaluated for injuries at the scene.[14]
July 10Wildfires erupt on both rims ofBlack Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, closing the park.Dry thunderstorms ignite numerous wildfires in the region.[15]

June 1In a terror attack inBoulder, aCimarron Hills manburns 15 predominately elderly persons demonstrating in support ofIsraeli hostages inGaza.[17] Karen Diamond, 82 of Boulder, will die on June 25 from her injuries.[18]
March 13American Airlines Flight 1006, aBoeing 737-800 flying fromColorado Springs Airport en route toDallas-Fort Worth International Airport diverted toDenver International Airport inColorado after experiencing high engine vibrations. After landing, the right engine caught fire shortly before or shortly after arriving at the gate. No emergency had previously been declared, and emergency fire equipment did not arrive for several minutes. Several dozen passengers deplaned using the left over-wing exits, but had to wait for ground crew to bring air stairs and ramps since trailing-edge wing flaps were not deployed as a slide. The other passengers used the air bridge and the right rear inflatable slide. All 172 passengers and 6 crew aboard the flight were evacuated safely, although twelve passengers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.[19]

November 5In the 2024 General Election, Colorado voters elect tenU.S. Presidential Electors forVice PresidentKamala Harris. Voters elect fourRepublicans to theU.S. House of Representatives:Jeff Hurd for the3rd District,Lauren Boebert for the4th District,Jeff Crank for the5th District, andGabe Evans for the8th District; and re-elect four of the five incumbentDemocraticU.S. Representatives. Democrats retain control of theColorado General Assembly. Voters addReproductive Freedom Amendment 79 to theConstitution of Colorado.[22]
September 12TheUnited States Army decommissions thePueblo Chemical Depot.[23]
August 12AMesa County jury finds former Mesa County ClerkTina Peters guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, three counts of attempting to influence a public servant, first-degree official misconduct, violation of duty, and failure to comply with an order from the Secretary of State in her attempt to proveelection fraud in the2020 U.S. presidential election. The jury finds Peters not guilty of a second count of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, criminal impersonation, and identity theft. Peters is the only election official convicted of criminal charges involvingstolen election conspiracy theories of the 2020 election.[24]
August 11Jennifer Valente ofColorado Springs wins her second consequetivegold medal for thewomen's cycling omnium with 144 points at theGames of the XXXIII Olympiad inParis. She becomes the most decorated U.S. female Olympic cyclist ever with three gold and two silver Olympic medals.[25]
August 10Mallory Swanson ofHighlands Ranch scores the lone goal asTeam USA defeatsBrazil 1–0 to win thewomen's football (soccer) tournament at theGames of the XXXIII Olympiad inParis. Mallory with four goals in tournament play,Sophia Smith ofWindsor with three goals and two assists, and Team CaptainLindsey Horan ofGolden with two assists receiveOlympic gold medals.[26]
August 7Sarah Hildebrandt ofColorado Springs wins thegold medal forwomen's 50 kilogram freestyle wrestling at theGames of the XXXIII Olympiad inParis.[27]
Team USA wins thewomen's cycling team pursuit with an average speed of 36.625 mph (58.942 km/h) at theGames of the XXXIII Olympiad inParis. As a member of the four rider team,Jennifer Valente ofColorado Springs wins anOlympic gold medal.[28]
August 5Valarie Allman ofLongmont wins her second consequetivegold medal for thewomen's discus throw with a throw of 195.2 feet (59.50 m) at theGames of the XXXIII Olympiad inParis.[29]
June 27Nathan MacKinnon of theColorado Avalanche wins both theNHLHart Memorial Trophy and theTed Lindsay Award.[30]

December 19In a four-to-three decision, theColorado Supreme Court overrules District Court Judge Sarah B. Wallace and rules thatDonald Trump is no longer eligible to seek public office under the14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.[39]
November 17Colorado District Court Judge Sarah B. Wallace rules thatDonald Trump did incite an insurrection against the United States in theJanuary 6 United States Capitol attack, but the14th Amendment to the United States Constitution does not preclude his appearance on a Colorado Presidential Primary ballot.[40]

2022December 31TheU.S.National Institute of Standards and Technology eliminates the official use of theU.S. survey foot, changing the official U.S. definition of the foot from approximately 304.800 609 601 219 mm to theinternational foot of exactly 304.8 mm.[52] This slight measurement change alters many traditional survey and elevation measures in Colorado. TheMile-High City is now officially 0.127 inches (3.219 mm) lower than before.
November 19A gunman invades theClub Q nightclub inColorado Springs and shoots 24 people, killing five, and causes injuries to six more before being subdued by club patrons. The gunman is later arranged on 305 counts.[53]
November 8Colorado voters reelectGovernorJared Polis and the other four incumbent state officers.Brittany Pettersen is electedU.S. Representative for the7th Congressional District, andYadira Caraveo is elected for the new8th Congressional District.U.S. SenatorMichael Bennet and the six incumbent U.S. Representatives are reelected.Democrats retain control of theColorado General Assembly.[54]

2021December 30Fanned by winds gusting over 110 miles per hour (180 km/h), theMarshall Fire burns 6,026 acres (24.39 km2) in southeasternBoulder County in six hours and forces the evacuation of more than 30,000 residents. The wildfire kills two people and destroys 1,084 homes and seven businesses and damages another 149 homes and 40 businesses with total losses estimated to exceed US$2 billion, making it the most expensive natural disaster in state history.[61]

October 17TheCalwood Fire ignites 3 miles (5 km) northwest ofJamestown. As many as 495 firefighters battle the wildfire as it consumes 10,106 acres (41 km2) of forest and 26 homes.
October 14TheEast Troublesome Fire ignites north ofParshall. As many as 794 firefighters battle the wildfire as it consumes 193,812 acres (784 km2) of forest and rangeland to become thesecond most extensive Colorado wildfire in recorded history. Thousands evacuated, more than 300 homes destroyed, and two residents killed. The wildfire would become the most expensive in Colorado history with insured losses alone of $543 million.
September 17TheMullen Fire ignites 7 miles (11 km) west ofCentennial, Wyoming. As many as 1,254 firefighters battle the wildfire as it spreads throughCarbon County, Wyoming,Albany County, Wyoming, andJackson County, Colorado and consumes 176,878 acres (716 km2) of forest.[79]
September 6Lightning ignites theMiddle Fork Fire 10 miles (16 km) north ofSteamboat Springs. As many as 136 firefighters battle the wildfire as it consumes 20,517 acres (83 km2) of forest.

As many as 1,903 firefighters battle the wildfire as it consumes 208,913 acres (845 km2) of forest to become themost extensive Colorado wildfire in recorded history, surpassing the ongoingPine Gulch Fire. Thousands evacuated, 209 homes destroyed.
August 10Humans ignite theGrizzly Creek Fire inGlenwood Canyon of theColorado River. The wildfire closesInterstate 70, theUnion Pacific Railroad, and theAmtrakCalifornia Zephyr for two weeks. As many as 889 firefighters battle the wildfire as it consumes 32,631 acres (132 km2) of forest.

November 30Spanish Governor Juan Manuel de Salcedo transfers control of La Luisiana toFrench Governor Pierre Clement de Laussat in a ceremony atNueva Orleans (New Orleans).[134] This formal transfer of power was made solely to accommodate theLouisiana Purchase.
