Juan Timothy Charles Roca (born 14 November 1985) is a BritishLabour Party politician who has been theMember of Parliament forMacclesfield since2024, when he gained the seat from theConservative Party.[1] Roca is the first ever Labour MP for Macclesfield, which had been held by the Conservative Party since 1918.[2]
Roca grew up inCheshire, England, attendingDisley Primary School andPoynton High School.[3] Roca studied history atLancaster University, where he was president of the Students' Union for the 2007/2008 year.
Roca worked in London in higher education. He also became a patron of APARU, the Association of Argentine professionals in the United Kingdom.[4]
At the May 2014Westminster City Council election, Roca was one ofLabour's three candidates for the St James's ward. However, all three seats were comfortably held by theConservative Party.[5]
Tim Roca subsequently stood as the Labour candidate forMacclesfield inCheshire at theMay 2015 general election. Although he increased Labour's vote share, the Conservative Party held the seat with a 29.8% majority.[citation needed]
In July 2015, Roca was elected to representHarrow Road ward (centred onthe street of that name) onWestminster City Council in a by-election. He was subsequently re-elected at the2018 and2022 local elections and stood down in August 2024.[6][7][8] He has served as Cabinet Member for Young People and Learning, and, until January 2024, as deputy leader of the council.[9][10]
Roca was selected as the Labour candidate for Macclesfield at the2024 general election, and this time took the seat from the Conservatives, who had represented the constituency since 1918.[2][11]
Roca is gay.[12]
