Tigan Island (Bulgarian:остров Тиган,romanized: ostrov Tigan,IPA:[ˈɔstroftiˈgan]) is the partly ice-free island 750 m long in west–east direction and 226 m wide in theDannebrog Islands group ofWilhelm Archipelago in theAntarctic Peninsula region. Its surface area is 10.68 ha.[1]
The feature is so named because of its shape supposedly resembling afrying pan ('tigan' in Bulgarian), and in association with other descriptive names of islands in the area.[1]
Tigan Island is located at65°02′00″S64°08′00″W / 65.03333°S 64.13333°W /-65.03333; -64.13333. It abutsPegas Island on the south, and is situated 115 m south ofYastreb Island and 3 km northwest ofRevolver Island. British mapping in 2001.
