Tiberia is agenus of minuteparasiticsea snails, marinegastropodmolluscs in thefamilyPyramidellidae, the pyrams and their allies.[1]Tiberia is the only genus in the tribeTiberiini.

Taxonomy

[edit]

According toSchander, Van Aartsen & Corgan (1999) the subfamily Tiberiinae contains a single genus,Tiberia.[2]

Tiberiinae was one of eleven recognised subfamilies in the familyPyramidellidae according to the taxonomy ofPonder &Lindberg (1997).[3]

However, in thetaxonomy of Bouchet & Rocroi (2005), this subfamily was downgraded to the rank oftribe Tiberiini in the subfamilySyrnolinae.[4]

Tiberia is the type genus of the tribe Tiberiini.[4]

Description

[edit]

The very smallshells of the species in this genus have manywhorls. They areumbilicate shells that lack both shell sculpture and the apertural tooth or teeth that are characteristic in most other members of the familyPyramidellidae. They may, however, have slight biplicate folds on thecolumella.
