TheThracian dialect is a dialect of theBulgarian language, member of theRup or Southeastern Bulgarian dialects. The present range of the dialect includes the regions ofHaskovo,Parvomay,Elhovo,Harmanli,Svilengrad,Topolovgrad andIvaylovgrad. In the past, the dialect was spoken on a much larger territory and extended far down intoEastern andWestern Thrace, now inTurkey andGreece, respectively. Following theBalkan wars, the Bulgarian population there was forced to flee toBulgaria, settling mostly in the regions ofBurgas andHaskovo,Yambol andPlovdiv.
