Thor: Ragnarok (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is thefilm score to theMarvel Studios filmThor: Ragnarok composed byMark Mothersbaugh.Hollywood Records released the album digitally on October 20, 2017, with a physical release on November 10, 2017.[1]
By August 2016,Mark Mothersbaugh was hired to score the film.[2][3] Mothersbaugh was influenced by a video essay from theYouTube channel Every Frame a Painting, which criticized the scores from previousMarvel Cinematic Universe films for their lack of memorability, to make the score forThor: Ragnarok as distinctive as possible.[4] The score was recorded atAbbey Road Studios.[5] The synthesized score is influenced by the work ofJean-Michel Jarre.[6] Mothersbaugh combined synthesizer keyboards he used from his days with the bandDevo with a 100 piece orchestra.[5]Patrick Doyle's themes fromThor andBrian Tyler's themes fromThor: The Dark World andAvengers: Age of Ultron, as well asJoe Harnell's "The Lonely Man" theme fromThe Incredible Hulk series, are also used in the film.[7] DirectorTaika Waititi would have asked the bandQueen to work on the soundtrack for the film (if their lead singerFreddie Mercury was still alive) because the film is "a cool bold, colorful cosmic adventure" which would have suited the "feel" of the band.[8]Hollywood Records released the film's soundtrack digitally on October 20, 2017, and was released physically on November 10, 2017.[1]
