"This Is the Home of the Brave" (Pashto:دا د باتورانو کورDā də bātorāno kor) is aPashto-languageNasheed, currently used as thenational anthem of theIslamic Emirate of Afghanistan. It isa cappella song, meaning that it does not contain musical instruments, as instrumentsare considered haram by the rulingTaliban.[1] It is based on thecommunist-era song "Da De Azadi Khawra".[2]
TheIslamic Emirate of Afghanistan (underTaliban rule) had formal laws specifying itsflag andemblem; however, no anthem was specified.[3] This nasheed was commonly used in the opening credits of the broadcasts byDa Shariat Zhagh ('Voice ofSharia'), the Taliban's official radio station, since the late 1990s, when the group controlled most of the Afghanistan territory, as well as in the videos published by the Taliban's Commission of Cultural Affairs. It was also used during official ceremonies.[4][5][6][7] Due to that, it is considered to be thede facto national anthem of both the Taliban and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.[8][9]
The recording most commonly used for this anthem features the voice ofMullah Faqir Muhammad Darwesh, a popular Talibanmunshid.[10]
