Thirukoteeswarar Temple (திருக்கோடீசுவரர் கோயில்)[1] is aHindu temple located at Thirukodikaval in theThiruvidaimarudur taluk ofThanjavur district inTamil Nadu,India. The temple is dedicated toShiva.

The earliest inscriptions in the temple date from 750 AD and belong to the reign of thePallava kingNandivarman. The present structure is believed to have been constructed bySembiyan Mahadevi, the mother ofUttama Chola in 979.[citation needed] An inscription from the period ofGandaraditya I indicates a gift of 8ma of land to the temple by Masenan Madan of Sirukattur to supply five pots of water everyday from the riverKaveri by the servants.[2]
Praises of the temple have been sung by theSaivite saintsAppar andSambandar. The temple was also visited by the saintBhaskararaya ofBhaskararajapuram. The temple has separate shrines forVinayaga,Muruga,Gajalakshmi,Saptha Kanniyar,Bhairavar,Surya,Chandra,Sani,Durvasa andNataraja.[3] The temple is counted as one of the temples built on the northern banks ofRiver Kaveri.[4]
