Thiobutabarbital (Inactin,Brevinarcon) is a short-actingbarbiturate derivative invented in the 1950s. It hassedative,anticonvulsant andhypnotic effects, and is still used inveterinary medicine for induction insurgicalanaesthesia.[1]
Thiobutabarbital contains a stereocenter and consists of two enantiomers. This is aracemate, i.e. a 1:1 mixture of (R)- and the (S)-form:[2]
