Thermofilum is agenus ofarchaea in the familyThermofilaceae.[2]

Thermofilum pendens is a hyperthermic member of the archael kingdomCrenarchaeota,[3] and represents a deep branch in the orderThermoproteales.T. pendens lacks the genes forpurinenucleotide biosynthesis and thus relies on environmental sources to meet its purine requirements.[4][3]
