The Watchers is a 1960bronze sculpture by the British sculptorLynn Chadwick depicting three abstracted figures whose form is inspired by theMoai.[1]
Four castings were made: these are currently on display inthe San Diego Museum of Art'sMay S. Marcy Sculpture Garden,[2]Roehampton University in London,[3]Loughborough University[1] andUrsinus College, Pennsylvania.[4]
One of the three figures at Roehampton University was stolen in 2006, possibly to be sold asscrap metal.[5][6][7] The remaining figures were placed into storage shortly afterwards. In 2014, the University obtained permission from Chadwick's estate to recast the missing figure and the sculpture was returned to its original location in full.[8]
