The newspaper was created in 1968 through the merger ofThe Daily Times of New Philadelphia andThe Daily Reporter ofDover, Ohio. They remain the principal cities of its coverage area, which also includes theTuscarawas County communities ofBaltic,Bolivar,Dennison,Gnadenhutten,Newcomerstown,Strasburg,Sugarcreek,Tuscarawas,Uhrichsville, andStone Creek; and some coverage ofCarroll,Coshocton,Harrison,Holmes andStark counties.
GateHouse acquiredThe Times-Reporter in April 2007 fromCopley Press.[3] GateHouse later acquired, and changed its name to, Gannett.
