The Shelby Star is daily newspaper based inShelby, North Carolina. It primarily servesCleveland County and the surrounding areas.
The newspaper has ties back to August 1894 whenClyde Hoey purchased theShelby Review and changed the name toThe Cleveland Star. In 1936, the name was changed toThe Shelby Daily Star. The name was changed toThe Shelby Star in 1984 andThe Star in 1988.[2]
The newspaper was owned byFreedom Communications until 2012, when the company sold its Florida and North Carolina papers toHalifax Media Group.[3] Then, in 2015, Halifax was acquired byNew Media Investment Group.[4][2]
