The Orient was built in 1927 and remodeled in 1937.[1]
In 1984, theHollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District was added to theNational Register of Historic Places, with The Orient listed as acontributing property in the district.[1]
In 2016, the building was sold for $8.4 million ($11 million in2024).[2]
The Orient is made ofconcrete and small in scale, and it features coloredmarble andaluminum banding, giving it a modern yet faintlyArt Deco look. TheUnited States Department of the Interior describe the building as having "sleek sophistication" and being "a good example of exterior signage" onHollywood Boulevard.[1]
